A story of going from being a non-runner to planning for a marathon in three years...

Faster than a speeding arrow

Photobucket

Yesterday I did my second lunchtime run...but with someone new!

Turns out that Kim and I work just down the street from one another. We're both runners. We're both in training (her for a marathon, me for a half). We work on the same street. Why not run together at lunch?

We met up near my office around 11:30 yesterday and headed north on the lakefront path. Same route I took when I ran with people from work two weeks ago. Except this time we were booking it!

I don't know what happened. I guess we just both got caught up in chatting that before we new it we had done our first mile in under 8:30. Um, oops? We managed to slow down during our second mile but the final mile was back under 8:30. Both of us were supposed to be doing "easy" runs. Maybe next time? Because I really hope there will be a next time! I don't get to run with people very often but it turns out I like it. And Kim is a fabulous conversationalist. Even when we're both panting for breath :-)

After our run, I freshened up in the bathroom and went about my afternoon. I ate lunch but was still hungry. I thought I'd brought enough food after learning my lesson last time, but I obviously still underestimated. I've got to get a stash of snacks in my office!

The nice thing about running yesterday at lunch is that I thought I was going to miss my opportunity to get a run in on Thursday...which my training plan called for. This definitely takes the place of that run.

But that wasn't the end of my workouts for the day. Oh no. I ended up doing a little upper body (and some core) work....at archery lessons! One of the things on my "bucket list" was to learn to shoot a bow and arrow. So, for our six year wedding anniversary my husband got me a lesson. We went together last night. He's done archery before but it was at least 15 years ago. Me, I'd never done it. Turns out, though, I'm not half bad. And it was A LOT of fun. I can't wait to go back.

Aww, thanks! I am still buzzing off of our fun run together! I can't wait to make it part of my routine! We just have to remember to SLOOOOOW down! I had to run 5 miles last night, and I was BEAT from Tuesday! Hee hee. I wonder how your track workout went.

I thought you'd be a natural at archery! Do you have another lesson set up?
