A story of going from being a non-runner to planning for a marathon in three years...

A Spring in My Step

Yesterday? Yesterday.... I ran in capris! And my visor! And no gloves! And sunglasses!

It was glorious.

The run itself wasn't too bad, either. The gal I was running with had just run 8 miles the night before and I was a little sore from my Hi/Lo aerobics class but we still kept it pretty close to my goal pace of 9:07.

We talked about how, in our 30s, we thought we'd have found careers we loved but instead we're doing something that, while tolerable, we're not passionate about. We talked about life in general. We talked about dogs versus cats. We talked about racing. We talked about drinking til you puke. We crammed a lot of stuff into those almost 5 miles.

When I woke up Thursday morning I didn't know if I would have the energy to run at lunch. I'm so glad I did. It's a wonderful break in the day and once I'm out there I wonder how I could have ever thought I wouldn't run.

As we all walked back to the locker room I asked how many "points" I get for placing in my age group on Sunday. See, my lunch time running group (also known as the Unofficial and Unendorsed Runner's Union) has some weird points system. You get points for racing, for showing up to weekly runs, and for whatever else the "scorekeeper" wants to give you points for. You lose points for whining, missing runs, being late, doing too much, not doing enough, or whatever else the scorekeeper feels you should lose points for.

Turns out I get 5 points for placing and 2 points for being the first person in the club to place this year.

There *is* a end-of-the-season trophy, but otherwise it's kind of like "Whose Line". The points are made up and they don't matter.

I mean, who wouldn't want to use their lunch hour for a run with this group? :-)

Can I come run with your group? :)

I love when you run and talk and it just flies by! Especially when done in capris. I hoping for carpris tomorrow.

I am sitting on the train now, looking at my FIRST marathon training. Yeah, it's far away, but I know you are thinking about it too. It turns out a lot of our long runs (FIRST and Hal) are similar distances or even the exact same one!

Now I sound all stalker-y and creepy. Sorry.

That's funny. I like it. Always keeping it lighthearted. That's the perfect mentality for a mid day running club!

SO glad you got some warm running weather up there!
