Quiet Week

I'm having one of those weeks where I just can't quite seem to fit in a workout. So here's a few bullet points so you don't forget I exist!

1. Do you miss seeing my face or reading my lovely prose? Well, never fear! You can check me out over here! That's my "fashion" blog. Really, it's just me showing you what I wear to work in the hopes I can give you some useful ideas. If you own clothes that you aren't sure what to do with, please go check it out and/or like it on Facebook! I post there every day even when I'm not posting here.

2. I rode my bike last night after dinner for 55 minutes and averaged 17 MPH. I usually don't work out after dinner but my husband and I made a pact. I rode my bike on the trainer while he lifted weights. By the way, my butt is STILL sore from Sunday's bike ride.

3. A part of me really, really wants to try swimming laps before work but the other part of me can't quite bring myself to do it. My current excuse is that I don't have a swim cap. But, truly, the reason that I can't get myself to the pool is that I'm scared. I'm scared of not knowing the "rules. Not knowing the culture and etiquette. Being the new kid on the block who gets in everyone's way. I don't know how to "circle swim". I don't want to share a lane with someone and slow them down.

Also, I hate mornings.

Tips?

Most pools have unofficial rules -- slower swimmers tend to be on the outside lanes. When you get to the pool, before choosing a lane -- keep an eye out to measure people's pace. I can never hurt to stand at one end and say hi to the person who's already there and see if they mind sharing a lane. (Not essential.) You can also ask the front desk/life guard if they have lanes lanes for lap swim that are for slower swimmers or faster swimmers.

Circle swim is basically just like driving -- you stay to your right regardless of the direction you're going. You pass on the left.

That's all you need to know. :)

Now to grab a swim cap and get going lady! You can do it!
I've never done a circle swim. So far, I've just split the lane. It's only awkward because my flip turns still have the tendency to jettison me into someone else's space.

Oh god, flip turns. No way am I attempting those yet.
mornings are the worst! I'm not a swimmer, but i feel like if someone was new to running, most of us would be very accepting and tolerant if they were new. I am sure swimmers are just as nice. Maybe someone will even show you the ropes!
I hear ya, I used to be terrified of pool ettiquette. I've pretty much gotten over it but I'd be nervous every time I headed to the pool. I'm in Chicago too, where do you swim?

Currently I would swim at the Fitness Formula Club in Oak Park but I'm hoping in a few months I'll be able to swim at the West Loop Athletic Club.
That is awesome! I'm not a swimmer at all, but you can totally do it :)
I wish I had some swimming tips, but I am not a swimmer...and as far as morning, I am with you 110% LOL
I would be nervous about swim etiquette too. Do they have someone at the gym who can give you an intro?
