September Wrap Up

Source

I've been so preoccupied with this whole knee thing that I forgot to do my monthly wrap up for September!

September was definitely a month of ups and downs. Personal distance records and personal best race times were the highlights. I'm still in awe that I shaved almost 9 minutes of my previous best half marathon time.

But then after months of injury-free running I had two pop up in the space of a week. First my left quad started acting up and as soon as that healed my right knee rebelled.

Which means that during my marathon taper I ran much less than my training plan called for and I finished the month with a total of 91 miles.

I hesitate to say that September was a bad month. I did get some good running in and thankfully the injuries stayed away long enough for me to do the key training runs.

I remember when I finished my first 5K I was chatting with another woman from my beginning women's running group and we were tossing around the idea of being crazy and doing a half marathon! But a marathon, we said, there's no way we'd do that.

I know, right?

If anything, September made me a stronger person and made me realize what I can do in terms of running. Ups and downs are part of life and part of running. The down times make you appreciate the up times. So no matter how the marathon turns out, I will be proud to say I did something I originally never thought I would or could. And that I finally got my half marathon time under 2:10 :-)

Yeah, you did! I'd say your running has improved leaps and bounds over the last few months. Too bad about the knee pain "getting in the way" though. :( But like you said, it has made you stronger and more aware of your running, yeah?

My fingers are crossed for you this weekend.

Sorry about all the injuries as well, that sucks but if it makes you feel any better, according to my marathon training program I was only supposed to run about 91 miles in September so you're right on target, just depends who's setting the course.

Your will have a great marathon. Your mind is ready and that's all that matters. The body will follow.

Do you still talk to that woman? It would be so cool to tell her you are doing a full!

I really do think the "downs" put the "ups" (or, running at all) in perspective. Let's hope that was the last of the downs though! :)
