Boo! Nasty about the chip return? Boo...Soggy grass? Boo! Nasty about the chip return? Boo!!! Funky chip timing?! Major Boo!!!

No wonder you were so off. Yeah, your schedule was off during the day too, but this just wasn't the race for you. At least your friends came, and the weather was clear, and you could still enjoy the evening. You'll get sub 27:00 at the next one!kilaxhttp://www.ilaxstudio.com/blog/noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-271998807275036188.post-53702793630273654442009-06-14T14:52:23.023-05:002009-06-14T14:52:23.023-05:00I too was out for a decent 5K time, but the course...I too was out for a decent 5K time, but the course ruined my times completely. I hadn't run on grass since my Cross County days (loong ago) so the course was a complete surprise. I didn't want to risk turning an ankle since I was running a half the next day. Oh well. Fun anyway.Anonymoushttps://www.blogger.com/profile/01701251036331759309noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-271998807275036188.post-54242832777645623092009-06-14T08:25:10.566-05:002009-06-14T08:25:10.566-05:00Well, while I agree that you went out too fast and...Well, while I agree that you went out too fast and possibly didn't run the best race possible (which was also true for me, and why I had disappointment mixed in despite a PR), I think that based on your Garmin, that your time was wrong. I really do. You said you started near the front - the time could honestly be based on the gun and not when you crossed because your crossing was probably within the first minute.

And as the person above me pointed out, you're not training for a 5k right now. Yes, you'll be getting faster naturally from your training (and you have) but you haven't been practicing this distance, training for speed very much, etc.

You have every right to be upset at this race, and for sure will need time to wallow. But for what it's worth, I think the time was wrong.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-271998807275036188.post-90570473997783812302009-06-14T06:49:34.320-05:002009-06-14T06:49:34.320-05:00Boy, I completely understand how you feel right no...Boy, I completely understand how you feel right now. Don't worry - you'll feel better about this in a day or two.

First, your training for a half - not a 5k. HUGE difference there. I know if you trained for a 5k you would PR - for sure!!

Second, soggy wet grass. Uh, yeah right. Just grass alone slows me down, let alone soggy. Not cool. (but I like the, "here's your sign" comment. Seriously people.)

Third, starting in the front? Yikes. Those runners will tear you up girl. Some of those people up there will be running around a 5:00 pace. I would always rather pass people than get passed, wouldn't you? 8:03 is fast especially if you were looking at 8:30. That first mile will kill you.

It sounds like you've only run a couple 5k's before. Don't worry - they are so short and you don't have much time to make up for mistakes or issues like you did in the longer races. You know what they say about 5k's --"Half as far, twice the fun!" Sounds like you learned a ton through this though and I know you'll PR the next one.kristenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/06269493667519186968noreply@blogger.com
